Out and About with Mary-Dulany James Update September 2010

13-Sep-2010

Friends,

As I walk around the district knocking on thousands of your doors I am hearing that job creation is a top priority. Everyone is worried about the economy and joblessness. I want you to know that I share these same concerns and that I have hope for the future.

I have often said “you do not have to leave home to have a home in Harford and Cecil Counties." There are many wonderful job and educational opportunities right here in our region and in Maryland along with a high quality of life. I talk a lot about BRAC in these emails because I
could not be more proud of the amazing things we are doing in Harford and Cecil Counties. I am optimistic about the many ways BRAC is providing opportunities for a high quality of life right here at home. Recently an article was written that outlines the nearly 1,000 defense jobs available as a result of BRAC with ten to fifteen thousand more jobs on their way. With so many direct and indirect BRAC jobs, many of our existing businesses will improve with the new customers that are coming and the opporunities for people to start up new businesses will grow.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the West Cecil Health Center in Conowingo. The center is the recipient of a grant from the Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC). The CHRC is an excellent part of our State Government that provides grants in communities to ensure there is access to quality, affordable healthcare. I am looking forward to visiting with Harford County recipients this fall; the Harford HOPE/re-entry program (which is a partnership between the Harford Health Department and local law enforcement) and the School-based Health Center (SBHC) grant that enables the Health Department to provide access to primary and mental health services for children in our schools. I have had the pleasure of working closely with the CHRC and the Department of Mental Hygiene’s community efforts as a whole for the last twelve years. I look forward to my continued relationship with them as we work together to provide funds in our communities.

I mentioned before the walking I have done around the district, I have vistied so many homes with plans to visit many more. I am happily overwhelmed by the outpouring of support I am receiving. If anyone would like to join me as I walk around the district please email me. I have been very much enjoying my time directly interacting with my constituents. Door knocking is extremely fun and I would love the company so please do click the link to email me if you have some time to help out.

In addition to knocking on doors and visiting with people at their homes, I have teams of volunteers helping to get my Mary-Dulany James signs out around the district. If you are a property owner with space for a large sign I would greatly appreciate you allowing me to place a 4x6 or 2x4 sign on your land. Please contact me if you or someone you know would like to display a road sign. I just put in another order for signs because of the large number of supporter requests.  I have both large ‘road signs’ and small yard signs. If you would like small yard sign please email me and I would be happy to get one to you.

As always, it is an honor and pleasure to serve you in the general assembly. I look forward to four more years of working with and for the people of Harford and Cecil Counties.

Very Truly Yours,

Mary-Dulany James

State Delegate
